Why was Maharishi Ramana often seated on tiger skins? Isn’t this against Ahimsa? In this video we use the answer to this question to arrive at a greater truth which is that the concept of Absolute Ahimsa, i.e. 100% non-violence at all times and under all conditions, is actually not supported by Vedanta. This is because there can arise certain extreme life-situations in which violence and even war become morally and spiritually justified.
One example of such a rare life-situation when violence became dharma, the right thing to do, is when the Allied Forces went to war against Hitler to put an end to his terrible monstrosities. Another example, which is the one we explore in this video, is when Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi picked up her sword to fight against the oppression of the British East India Company.
